Hurricane “Chido” hits the French island of Mayotte, causing deaths and significant damage

Yesterday, Saturday, Hurricane Chido struck the French island of Mayotte, located in the Indian Ocean, killing at least two people and causing severe material damage.
The French authorities declared a state of maximum alert on the island, and the Ministry of the Interior confirmed that 110 security forces and firefighters had been sent there, with plans to send 140 others today to enhance relief efforts.
The resigned French Minister of the Interior, Bruno Retaillo, confirmed in a statement on the “X” platform that the country is on full alert to confront the effects of the devastating hurricane, noting that the authorities are in the process of taking the necessary measures to provide support to citizens.
The French Meteorological Authority warned that the wind speed accompanying the hurricane reached about 226 kilometers per hour, prompting the authorities to call on residents to stay in their homes for their safety.
