المملكة: Random screening of public transport drivers for drugs
The Public Transport Authority revealed a joint campaign with the Ministries of Interior and Health to conduct random drug and psychotropic substance checks on drivers of public transport, including trucks, buses and taxis.
The authority explained in a circular to the Federation of Saudi Chambers that the implementation of random screening will begin soon, stressing the importance of educating the private sector about the mechanisms and procedures for random screening of public transportation drivers and its importance.

In this context, an awareness campaign will be launched this December, including a “remote” workshop on Sunday, December 15, at 10 a.m., in accordance with the awareness plan for random testing of public transportation drivers for drugs and psychotropic substances.
This step comes within the framework of persistent national efforts to combat drugs, as the General Secretariat of the National Committee for Combating Drugs previously launched the “Stay Close” campaign in October 2022 to enhance family cohesion and protect children from falling into the trap of addiction.

Stay close to activate community roles
The “Stay Close” campaign aimed to activate all societal roles to eliminate drugs and drug addiction. This is done through media materials that highlight the impact of family disintegration and the absence of family follow-up on children’s behavior and their deviation into twisted paths that lead them toward abuse and addiction. It also stresses the importance of family cohesion and containment as a fundamental reason for preventing children and protecting them from drugs.
It is noteworthy that the National Committee for Combating Drugs continues its efforts in cooperation with various government agencies to implement awareness campaigns targeting various segments of society with the aim of immunization against this dangerous scourge.
