Despite the war, Ukraine supports Syria with shipments of grain and products

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced his intention to supply Syria with grain and other agricultural products on a humanitarian basis.
“Now we can help Syrians with our wheat, flour and oil: products that are used globally to ensure food security,” he said in his daily address.

Ukraine’s assistance to Syria

Zelensky continued: “We are coordinating with our partners and the Syrian side to resolve logistical issues. We will support this region until stability there becomes the basis of our movement towards real peace.”
He explained that the potential shipments will be part of the “Ukraine Grains” program, which began in 2022, to provide food aid to the countries most in need.
Even in light of the war, Ukraine has enormous production capabilities and is one of the most successful grain producers in the world.

Moscow threats

Despite Moscow’s threats to target cargo ships in the Black Sea, Kiev has established a corridor in the sea, starting in the summer of 2023, to export its agricultural products.
Zelensky’s statements come after a coalition of opposition factions led by Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham ousted Bashar al-Assad on December 8, and the ousted president took refuge in Russia.
