73 workers rescued and 9 died in an accident where a bus transporting workers collapsed in Khor Fakkan

Nine passengers, among 83 people of Asian and Arab nationalities, died after a bus transporting workers collapsed in the city of Khor Fakkan yesterday evening, as a result of the bus’s brakes failing.

The specialized teams at the Sharjah Police General Command, in cooperation and coordination with the concerned authorities, were able to reach the accident site at record speed, which contributed to rescuing 73 passengers, providing first aid to the injured, and transporting them to hospitals to receive the necessary medical care.

The Director of the Eastern Region Police Department, Brigadier General Dr. Ali Al-Ki Al-Hamoudi, said that the operations room of the Sharjah Police General Command received a report on Sunday evening about the collapse of a bus containing workers, on Wadi Washi Square, located at the entrance to the city of Khor Fakkan, and all the specialized police teams and civil defense teams immediately went to The National Ambulance arrived at the scene of the accident, and it was found that there had been deaths and injuries.

He pointed out that immediately, the state of readiness was raised, and all competent agencies began taking immediate measures to rescue the injured, and provide them with the necessary first aid as a result of the various injuries they sustained, which ranged from severe, moderate, and simple. They were also transferred to hospitals to receive comprehensive health care.

The Director of the Eastern Region Police Department explained that preliminary investigations indicate that the brake failure on the bus was the main cause of the accident, which led to the driver losing control and the bus deteriorating at the right exit of the entrance to the city of Khor Fakkan.

The Sharjah Police General Command called on road users to adhere to traffic laws and regulations, and traffic safety standards, and stressed the importance of fully adhering to regular vehicle maintenance, not being distracted by anything other than the road, and adhering to the speeds specified in tunnels, curves and intersections.
