Tomorrow…the World Urban Cycling Championship begins in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi, December 16 / WAM / The seventh edition of the World Urban Cycling Championship (Abu Dhabi 2024), which will be held next to the Nation Towers on the Abu Dhabi Corniche, will start tomorrow and continue until December 21.
The tournament is hosted by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council in cooperation with the International Cycling Federation, and represents a unique combination of world-class sports competitions and a rich program of entertainment activities, making the event an ideal experience suitable for all family members.
This championship, whose previous edition was hosted by Abu Dhabi in 2022, is one of the most prominent events that reflects the great development of cycling in Abu Dhabi, and contributes to strengthening the city’s position as a global sports destination. It also supports the vision of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council in developing activities that promote a healthy lifestyle and return to life. Benefiting all members of society.
The championship competitions include competitions in two disciplines: BMX Freestyle (Park – Flatland), and Trials (for elite women, for elite men in the 20- and 26-inch categories, for juniors in the 20- and 26-inch categories, and for mixed teams).
On the sidelines of sports competitions, the event provides a diverse program of entertainment and cultural activities, including acrobatic bicycle performances, break dancing, magic shows and juggling, in addition to live music, pantomime, and a wide variety of international restaurants and cafes.
In a related context, on December 18 and 19, Abu Dhabi will host the “Global Mobility and Bicycle Cities Forum 2024”, which is being held for the first time in the UAE and the continent of Asia, and focuses on promoting sustainable mobility and the role of cycling in achieving global sustainable development goals.
Arif Hamad Al Awani, Secretary General of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, stressed that the growing popularity of cycling in Abu Dhabi is due to the readiness of the advanced infrastructure and the government’s ambitious initiatives.
