The French Prime Minister reveals the latest developments in forming the government
This comes despite political instability, the likes of which France has not witnessed in decades.
French government
On Friday, Bayrou, an ally of Emmanuel Macron, succeeded Michel Barnier, who was ousted three months after taking office, in a historic vote of no confidence from left-wing and far-right deputies.
Bayrou became the sixth head of government since Macron was elected president for the first time in 2017, and the fourth in 2024.
Marine Le Pen, head of the National Rally Party’s deputies, who was received at the government headquarters on Monday morning, expressed her party’s “reservations” to the Prime Minister “about a number of figures” who might join the government.

She said, “The manner of interaction is the most positive that she has witnessed so far,” and she was accompanied by the party’s first man, Jordan Bardella.
Bayrou, who insisted on meeting personally with the leader of each party, then received the Socialist officials who had no intention of entering the government.
A few days ago, French President Emmanuel Macron called for a “meeting of various political forces” to develop a program for forming a new government, after the overthrow of Prime Minister Michel Barnier.
A new government in France
Green Party leader Marine Tondolier said after meeting Macron at the Elysee Palace that the president had proposed a “new approach” to forming a new government.
Macron appointed conservative Barnier as prime minister after early elections in July failed to secure a clear majority for any bloc.
