Intellectual dialogues enrich the Riyadh Theater Festival with distinctive performances

The sixth day of the Riyadh Theater Festival in its second session witnessed a series of cultural and artistic events that combined in-depth dialogue seminars and various theatrical performances, where the audience interacted with content that combined intellectual depth and artistic creativity, which reflects the importance of the festival as a platform for developing the theatrical scene in the Kingdom.
The day’s activities began with a dialogue symposium entitled “Contemporary Theater in the Arab World: Between Creativity and Sustainability,” in which Dr. Kamal Al-Allawi from Tunisia and Dr. Lina Abyad from Lebanon participated, and was moderated by Sultan Al-Noah.
Al Noah opened the dialogue by clarifying the concept of sustainability as “the ability to preserve the quality of life and use natural resources responsibly and sustainably.”

turning point

In his intervention, Dr. Kamal Al-Allawi discussed the development of theater from its origins in the Greek era through the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, all the way to the transformations brought about by Emile Zola, where he pointed out that these transformations represented a prominent turning point in the history of world theatre.
Meanwhile, Dr. Lina Abyad presented innovative insights on improving theatrical production and its sustainability, stressing the importance of adopting modern technologies such as recycling and digital printing, with the aim of reducing waste and achieving long-term sustainability for the theater.
In terms of theatrical performances, the play “A Grandson for Rent” presented a new artistic experience that dealt with a conflict between the ambition of the poor and the greed of the rich, through a dramatic plot that simulates the challenges facing individuals in a contemporary society full of contradictions.
The audience also witnessed the performance of the play “Touq”, which shed light on the lives of five employees who live in a circle of daily monotony, only to find themselves surrounded by internal conflicts that reflect the challenges of contemporary life, in a dramatic plot that combined symbolism and realism.

Creativity and innovation

The activities of the sixth day concluded with a group of activities that embodied the spirit of creativity and innovation, amid great interaction from the audience, which confirms the important role that the festival plays in enhancing artistic and cultural awareness and supporting theatrical cadres in the Kingdom.
It is noteworthy that the Riyadh Theater Festival, which was launched last Sunday, continues until December 26, and is considered one of the most prominent cultural and artistic events that highlights theatrical creativity, within the framework of the Kingdom’s vision to promote arts and culture as part of the national transformation and Vision 2030.
