Syria: Fuel shortage affects basic activities, and a difficult situation in the northeast of the country

In its latest update issued on Monday, the office added that in Aleppo Governorate, six public hospitals and 60 primary health care centers are only partially functioning due to fuel and energy shortages.
UN partners were quoted as saying that the damage to the bridge infrastructure linking Damascus to other major parts of the country is affecting the logistics chain.
He stressed that despite the challenges, the Office and its partners continue to support the response as security conditions allow.
He pointed out that they distribute food aid, including bread, ready-to-eat rations, hot meals, and food baskets. He added that in northwest Syria, partners have also begun to support farmers, including through cash grants.
The office reported that nutrition interventions are continuing across the country, as since December 2, at least 63 cases of wasting and 18 cases of malnutrition among children have been identified and admitted for treatment.
Air strikes and incursions
The Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs explained that the situation in northeastern Syria remains difficult for 40,000 people residing in 215 collective emergency centres.
He warned that the security situation is volatile and hinders humanitarian operations, but the partners were able to distribute winter supplies, blankets and winter clothes.
The office said more is needed, and additional winter support for host communities is also urgently needed.
He pointed out that the partners were unable to reach Manbij and Kobani for two weeks due to the lack of security in that region.
At the same time, partners reported Israeli airstrikes in Latakia, as well as incursions into southern governorates, resulting in damage to civilian infrastructure.
