The National Research Center revealed the benefits of soybeans for women’s health, especially after menopause.
Prof. Dr. Dalia Osama Saleh, Department of Pharmacology at the Center for Medical Research and Clinical Studies, said that boiled soybeans are a nutritious snack, rich in protein and fiber, and contain phytoestrogens, which studies have shown have an effective role in alleviating symptoms. She explained during the statement issued by the center its most prominent benefits revealed by scientific research, which are: 1- Reducing hot flashes, as soybean products reduce the frequency and severity of hot flashes.
2- Improving bone health, enhancing bone density and preventing bone fragility resulting from low estrogen.
3- Improving mood and sleep, as it contributes to improving mood and reducing sleep disturbances.
4- Promoting heart health, reducing harmful cholesterol levels, which reduces the risk of heart disease.
She pointed out how to use soybeans, such as boiled soybeans, where the seeds are boiled until they become soft and served as a protein-rich snack. In addition to the method of making a meat substitute (tofu), which is made by grinding soybeans and extracting the milk from them, then boiling it with a coagulant such as lemon juice, and leaving it to become a solid mold.
She added that soybean products (such as cereals or milk) can be found in large supermarkets or health food stores.
She stated that it is preferable to eat about 25-50 grams of soybean protein daily, which is approximately equivalent to one cup of boiled soybeans or a cup of soy milk. She explained the health conditions in which women are prohibited from using soybeans, which are:
1- Women with breast cancer or who have a family history of this disease, due to the effect of plant estrogens on some types of hormone-related cancer.
2- Women who suffer from thyroid disorders, as soybeans can interfere with the absorption of thyroid hormones.
3- If there is an allergy to soybeans or its products.
