Imams and preachers of the Endowments participate in a conference "Together to confront hate speech"

A number of imams and preachers from the Ministry of Endowments participated in the activities of the “Together to Confront Hate Speech” conference, which was held today, in cooperation between the Egyptian Fatwa House, the Coptic Orthodox Church, the Coptic Evangelical Organization for Social Services, and the King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz International Center for Dialogue (Kaysid), within the framework of supporting the state’s efforts to promote the values of citizenship, tolerance, and coexistence.
The imams continued. The conference sessions discussed the phenomenon of hate speech through three main axes: education, media, and law, and the recommendations reached by the participants emphasized the importance of the role of educational institutions in establishing a culture of dialogue and acceptance of others, and the necessity of the media adhering to professional standards in dealing with religious and societal issues, in addition to activating laws and legislation that criminalize hate speech and incitement to violence and discrimination.
At the conclusion of the conference, the participants stressed that confronting hate speech is a shared societal responsibility that requires the integration of the roles of religious, educational, and media institutions. And cultural and legislative work, and collective work to protect societal peace, and build a society based on citizenship, tolerance, and acceptance of diversity.
The participation of imams and preachers of the Ministry of Endowments in this conference confirms the advocacy and awareness role of the Ministry in spreading the values of centrism and moderation, and confronting extremist thought and speeches of exclusion and hatred, through rational religious discourse that enhances mutual understanding and respect among the people of the country.
