The Foreign Minister assures his Gambian counterpart of Egypt’s aspiration to continue supporting and developing the relations of the two countries

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Egyptian Affairs Abroad, Dr. Badr Abdel Aty, discussed during his meeting today, Wednesday, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of The Gambia, Serene Modo Njie; Ways to strengthen bilateral relations and coordinate positions on issues of common interest.
Minister Abdel-Aty congratulated his Gambian counterpart on the occasion of assuming his new position, expressing Egypt’s aspiration to continue supporting and developing bilateral relations between the two countries, and to enhance mutual coordination regarding various issues of common interest at the bilateral and regional levels.
The Minister affirmed Egypt’s aspiration to convene the Egyptian-Jambian joint committee, as it represents an institutional boost to bilateral relations. He stressed the importance of enhancing economic cooperation and increasing the volume of trade and investment exchange between the two countries, and benefiting from the opportunities provided by the African Continental Free Trade Agreement.
He pointed out the importance of enhancing cooperation in the fields of tourism, housing, and infrastructure, while involving the private sector in supporting trade and investment movement between the two sides. Egypt looks forward to the participation of experienced Egyptian companies in implementing development plans in The Gambia in various fields.
He stressed the importance of continuing cooperation in the health field, pointing – in this context – to the project to build and equip an Egyptian investment hospital in Banjul with Egyptian cadres.
Minister Abdel-Aty expressed readiness to meet Gambia’s needs in the field of training and capacity building through programs organized by the Egyptian Agency for Partnership for Development and the Cairo International Center for Conflict Resolution. Preserving and building peace, and organizing training courses at the Institute of Diplomatic Studies for young Gambian diplomats.
The meeting also discussed ways of academic cooperation between the University of The Gambia and Al-Azhar University, especially in the fields of medicine and engineering, and providing training scholarships for faculty members.
On the other hand, the two ministers exchanged views on developments in the regional situation on the African continent, especially the African Sahel region, and ways to establish stability, security and development, where the Minister of Foreign Affairs reviewed the training programs and support that Egypt provides to the countries of the Sahel region; In a way that contributes to establishing stability and security in the region.
The two ministers agreed to continue coordination and consultation in a bilateral and multilateral framework to achieve common interests.
