100 thousand tons annually.. Inauguration of the Center of Excellence for Salmon Production in Hail
It is considered a qualitative project in the region, and is being implemented by the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, represented by the National Fisheries and Development Programme, in partnership with King Abdulaziz University, in the presence of the Deputy Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture, Engineer Mansour Al-Mushaiti, and the President of King Abdulaziz University, Dr. Tarif Al-Aama.
Promoting food security
His Highness toured the project’s sections, reviewed its details, and listened to a detailed explanation of its stages from planning to final operation.
He also sponsored the ceremony in which the Assistant Undersecretary for Livestock and Dr. Ali Al-Sheikhi reviewed the project’s most prominent milestones, which reflect a development success story that supports sustainable development and contributes to enhancing food security.
The Director General of the Ministry’s branch in Hail, Dr. Fahd bin Moeid Al-Hassani, confirmed that the project represents a qualitative development addition to the Hail region, and contributes to achieving the objectives of the Ministry’s strategy aimed at raising local production of fish resources in line with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030.
He pointed out that the Center of Excellence aims to support applied research and develop the inland aquaculture sector, increase local production of salmon, expand investment horizons in the fishery sector in the Kingdom, and enhance the participation of the private sector in high-value projects.
Center of Excellence for Salmon Fish Production in Hail
The President of King Abdulaziz University, Dr. Tarif Al-Aama, also praised the integration between the Ministry and the University in implementing this project, which highlights a bright picture of joint work between government agencies under the umbrella of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030.
He explained that the project reflects interest in sustainable development and the use of modern technologies and national competencies to achieve long-term strategic goals, focusing on food security and enhancing productivity in line with the aspirations of the wise leadership.

Deputy Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture, Engineer Mansour Al-Mushaiti, confirmed that the Center of Excellence for Salmon Fish Production in the Hail region represents a qualitative leap in the fisheries sector, and enhances the Kingdom’s position in achieving food security, by using advanced technologies to increase productivity and reduce dependence on imports.
He pointed out that the project is the largest of its kind in the Middle East, contributes to providing new job opportunities, and reflects fruitful cooperation between the government sector, the private sector, and the research sector.
Space of excellence center for salmon production in Hail
The Center of Excellence is located on an area of 10,000 square meters in the Al-Qaed area, and consists of a hatchery and fish farm with an area of 4,352 square meters and an aquaponics unit with an area of 1,000 square meters.
It includes integrated production units that include maternal care, hatching, incubation, and growth, in addition to water recycling systems and laboratories specialized in fish health, in addition to control, management, and logistical support units.


The project’s annual production amounts to 100,000 tons of salmon, with the hatchery’s production capacity reaching five million juvenile fish annually to support local production.
The project also provides a hydroponic agricultural unit with a production capacity of up to 30 tons annually of fruit plants and vegetables in its final stage, which enhances its role in supporting sustainable agricultural and fishery development, and contributes to achieving self-sufficiency and enhancing food security in the Kingdom.
