New Orleans Police said they were dealing with a hit-and-run accident that resulted in a large number of victims, with the death toll reaching 10 people and 30 others injured after a car hit a crowd of people on Canal and Bourbon Street in New Orleans.
The city of New Orleans confirmed the numbers in a statement on its website and said people were injured in a “mass casualty incident involving a vehicle that entered a large crowd at Canal and Bourbon streets.”

A large number fell

New Orleans police said in a statement reported by NBC affiliate WDSU that “large numbers of casualties have been reported on Bourbon and Iberville streets,” and that a vehicle may have struck people.
Historic Bourbon Street in the French Quarter is a popular tourist area, and was expected to be crowded throughout the night.
Police said on Tuesday that they expected the city to be crowded as locals and visitors celebrated the New Year. The New Orleans Police Department said it will employ 100% of its personnel and will employ 300 additional officers to help keep the peace.
