America.. The death toll from the New Orleans attack has risen to 15 people
An FBI official told Agence France-Presse by phone that the death toll from the attack, which authorities suspect was a jihadist “terrorist” act, rose from 10 dead to 15 dead, based on figures from the city’s Forensic Medicine Directorate.
Revealing the identity of the perpetrator
Law enforcement officials in the United States of America said that the suspect in the New Orleans ramming and shooting incident was killed after exchanging gunfire with police.
They indicated that they identified the driver who killed 10 people in a hit-and-run accident in New Orleans as a 42-year-old man.
10 people were killed and 30 others were injured after a car plowed into a crowd of people celebrating the New Year in the American city of New Orleans during the first hours of the New Year celebration.
Terrorist act
The FBI is treating the incident as a “terrorist act,” and the FBI said the driver of the vehicle was killed in an exchange of gunfire with police following the attack that occurred at 3:15 a.m. Wednesday at the famous intersection of Canal and Bourbon Streets in the crowded French Quarter.
New Orleans police said that after the vehicle stopped, the driver got out and opened fire on the police officers, who returned fire, killing the driver.
Police explained that two policemen were shot and are in stable condition.

New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell described the car-ramming incident as a “terrorist attack” in a press conference, and the city’s police chief stated that it was clear that the incident was intentional.
Police Commissioner Anne Kirkpatrick said the driver of the vehicle was “intent on committing carnage and causing harm. It was very deliberate behaviour. The man was trying to run over as many people as possible.”
