At 116 years old.. the death of Japanese Tomiko Itoka, the dean of older women in the world

The doyen of the elderly in the world, Japanese Tomiko Itoka, died at the age of 116, inside a nursing home where she had resided since 2019.
The municipality of the city of Ashiya, southern Japan, reported that Itoka, who lived in the city, had 4 children and 5 grandchildren, and came from a family of 3 children.
She was a volleyball player in her youth, and lived through wars, epidemics, and technological revolutions.
Itoka was born on May 23, 1908 in Osaka, near Ashiya, and was classified as the oldest person in the world after the death of the Spanish Maria Branyas Moreira in August 2024 at the age of 117 years.
