Hebrew media reported that Steve Witkoff, US President-elect Donald Trump’s envoy to the Middle East, made a surprise visit to Israel and met with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu after his visit to Doha, at a time when efforts are continuing to conclude an agreement to release the hostages and ceasefire in Gaza. A second Israeli official indicated that some progress had been made in the indirect talks between Israel and Hamas. Which is being mediated by Egypt, Qatar and the United States with the aim of reaching an agreement in Gaza. The mediators are making new efforts to reach a ceasefire agreement in the Strip and release the remaining Israeli hostages held there before Trump takes office on January 20. The Qatari Foreign Ministry said in a statement that Witkopf arrived in Doha on Friday and met with Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani. Egyptian security sources said that Cairo and Doha received assurances from Witkoff that the United States will continue to work to reach a fair agreement that ends the war soon, without giving details. Media reported earlier, quoting a political official, that Netanyahu conducted an assessment of the situation regarding prisoners and missing persons on Friday with the heads of the security establishment. During the assessment of the situation, updates were received from members of the negotiating team and instructions were given to continue.
