For a week… Los Angeles fires postpone the announcement of the Oscar nominations

The Academy of Animation Arts and Sciences, known as the “Oscars”, announced that the date for announcing nominations for its awards was postponed for approximately a week from its original date, against the backdrop of the continuing raging wildfires in California.
The academy said on Monday that nominations will now be announced on January 23.

A unified force in the film industry

“We are all devastated by the impact of the fires and the devastating losses suffered by so many in our community,” Academy CEO Bill Kramer and Academy President Janet Young said in a statement.
The statement added: “The Academy has been a unifying force in the film industry, and we are committed to standing together in the face of hardship.” As fires continue to rage in the Los Angeles area, the Film Academy also extended the voting period on nominations for its members until Friday.

Canceling the candidates’ luncheon

The organization that holds the Oscars also made the decision to cancel its annual nominees luncheon, a non-televised event best known for the group photos it produces annually.
The scientific and technical awards will be rescheduled at a later time, as they were previously scheduled to be announced on February 18.
Also on Monday, the Writers Guild of America postponed the announcement of its nominees until further notice.
The nominations were originally scheduled to be announced on January 9, and were first postponed until Monday, before it was announced that they would be postponed a second time.
This ceremony is scheduled to be held on February 15th.
