Building a strong relationship.. Trump reveals details of his contact with the Chinese President
Donald Trump pledged to build a strong relationship with Chinese President Xi Jinping after they spoke by phone days before Trump took office.
US-China relations
“The call was very good for both China and the United States,” Trump said on his social media platform.
He continued: I expect that we will solve many problems together, and that we will begin doing so immediately. “We discussed trade arbitrage, fentanyl, TikTok, and many other topics.”
Trump added: “President Xi and I will do everything in our power to make the world more peaceful and secure!”, while official Chinese media reported that Chinese President Xi Jinping held telephone conversations on Friday with US President-elect Donald Trump.
Imposing stricter measures
CCTV said that the phone call took place “on the evening of January 17,” without providing further details.
Earlier, Beijing announced that Chinese Vice President Han Zheng will attend Trump’s inauguration ceremony in Washington next week, and the new US president will be sworn in on Monday in Washington.
Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday expressed his hope for a “good start” in relations with the United States, according to Chinese state television.
Trump recently threatened to impose tougher measures, accusing Beijing of adopting unfair trade practices and contributing to the devastating fentanyl crisis in the United States.
Trade war between China and America
During his first term, Trump also engaged in an intense trade war with China, imposing high tariffs on imports from the world’s second-largest economy.
Beijing criticized the “unjustified attacks” against it after Trump’s nominee for Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, condemned the “dangerous” China before the Senate during the confirmation session for his appointment.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiaqun said during a regular press conference, “The American side must reach a correct understanding of China and stop the unjustified attacks and slander campaigns against China.”
