The Film Commission organizes a film journalism workshop to develop media skills
The Film Commission announced the organization of a virtual training workshop under the title “Cinematic Journalism” during the period from January 22 to 24, 2025. The workshop targets a selected group of trainees, numbering between 12 and 15 trainees, and aims to develop knowledge and skills in the field of cinematic journalism in its print, visual and audio forms. .
Workshop topics
The workshop seeks to clarify the difference between artistic criticism and personal opinion, focusing on the importance of constructive criticism and its major role in developing films and enhancing cinematic awareness among the audience.
It also sheds light on the foundations of journalistic writing in the field of cinema, including media follow-up of cinematic events and festivals, film reviews, and specialized critical reading of cinematic works.
The workshop will be presented by the well-known film and media critic Irfan Rashid, a writer and director with long experience in this field. He will present comprehensive topics aimed at enabling trainees to understand the foundations of film journalism, including the difference between journalism and artistic criticism, and the importance of criticism in promoting… The film sector locally and internationally, in addition to developing the basics of professional critical writing.
The workshop’s outcomes include enhancing dialogue and exchanging views among participants on journalistic methods of dealing with cinematic production, and working to refine and direct energies towards different media and critical specializations, keeping pace with developments in filmmaking.
Participants selection criteria
Precise criteria have been set for selecting workshop participants, requiring applicants to submit a detailed identification card, in addition to submitting new and unpublished written materials proving their creative and writing abilities. The Authority requires that the materials submitted be written by the trainee himself and have not been subject to any modification or editing by any media or editorial body.
This workshop comes within the framework of the Film Commission’s ongoing efforts to enhance national competencies in the film media sector, and to support the process of developing professional cadres capable of keeping pace with market needs and actively contributing to achieving the goals of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030, which seeks to strengthen the Kingdom’s position as a leading destination in the field of film industry.
