After a devastating leakage accident, 1,500 tons of oil were removed from a tanker that ran aground in Russia

Officials announced on Saturday that rescue workers succeeded in removing approximately 1,500 tons of oil remaining on board a tanker that ran aground last year in southern Russia.
The accident resulted in a devastating oil spill that damaged miles of coastline along the Black Sea.
Two Russian ships, “Volgunft-239-” and “Volgunft-212”, were severely damaged in stormy weather last December 15, leading to the spilling of thousands of tons of low-quality fuel oil called mazut into the Kerch Strait.

Oil leakage into water

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Vitaly Savelyev said today, Saturday, in a post on the Russian government’s official Telegram channel, that a crew from the Russian Maritime Rescue Service pulled out the remaining 1,488 tons of oil remaining on the ship “Volgunft-239” in an operation that lasted six days.
Emergency Situations Minister Alexander Korenkov confirmed that the damaged tanker was to be unloaded earlier this month but workers found it was continuing to leak oil into the water.
