المملكة: We are awaiting the details of the new sales mechanisms

A number of citizens expressed their optimism that the decision of the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture shall contribute to the start of the implementation of mechanisms and standards for selling live livestock in weights in controlling livestock prices and preventing manipulation, demanding clarification of new mechanisms and whether to include wholesaler sellers, “singular” and commercial institutions.
On a tour of “Al -Youm” in the sheep market in Dammam, Mubarak Al -Qahtani, one of the market visitors, explained that he came to buy and was surprised by the high prices despite the failure to implement the decision yet.
He expected the decision to put an end to the high cost and manipulation, and he said: “The reasons for the high prices are multiple, and the prices are different and we hope that the decision will contribute to the service of the market and buyers, and we are optimistic about good, God willing.”

While Abdullah Mahdi, one of the market visitors, stated that he buys sheep according to the appropriate prices for him, but he noticed a general rise in prices, stressing that he did not hear about the decision to sell livestock with weights.

Marboute called a cattle to clarify the details of the new sales mechanisms. Sadiq Ahmed, one of the livestock breeders, said that he had no information on the criteria for selling live livestock with weights.
Hamed Al -Rashidi, one of the breeders, pointed out that there is a great disparity in sheep prices currently, with the continued sale in the traditional way.

I heard about the decision, but we have not received details of it yet. He called for tightening censorship to prevent any manipulation that may occur in increasing its weight in order to raise their prices.

Al -Rashidi attributed the high prices to the spring atmosphere that reduces the sale of merchants, in addition to the lack of quantities offered, citizens hope that the new decision will contribute to the market organization and control prices in a way that balances the supply and demand.
It is noteworthy that the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture announced the start of the implementation of mechanisms for selling live livestock in weight as of June, corresponding to 1 Muharram 1447 AH, with the aim of organizing the process of selling livestock in public benefit markets in a manner that achieves the fair value of producers and consumers.

The Ministry requires livestock importers to prove the implementation of the Environmental Sustainability Program, and it has imported 1,796,796 heads of live cattle during January and February 2024 to cover the lack of local production.
The Ministry confirmed that the annual import volume of livestock amounts to more than four million heads, in addition to local production, encouraging merchants and investors to provide the sufficient number of livestock to meet the domestic market demand.
