The accident resulted in the launch of a massive search and rescue operation in the near Botomac River, after several deaths, but the exact number of victims is still unclear.

Rescue teams continue to search for any survivors, and an army official said the helicopter was carrying three soldiers.
There was no immediate information about the reason for the collision, while all the takeoffs and landing operations were suspended at the airport, while the helicopters belonging to the law enforcement agencies flew over the site.
Rubber rescue boats in the Botomac River also launched a point along the George Washington Highway, north of the airport, and the paramedics installed lighting towers on the beach to illuminate the area near the accident site.
At least six boats combed water using search headings.
Investigation of the accident
The Federal Aviation Authority announced that a regional passenger plane belonging to the BSA Airlines collided with a military helicopter while it was approaching a runway 33 at the airport.
The accident occurred about nine in the evening Washington time (second in the morning GMT).
The authority explained that the plane was on a flight from the city of Whitchita, Kansas, noting that the Transportation Safety Authority will undertake the investigation of the accident.
