"Sharjah consultant" Authorizes a draft law regulating the University of Arts

Sharjah, April 19, 2017 – The Advisory Council of the Emirate of Sharjah approved a draft law for the year 2026 regarding the organization of the University of the Arts, after introducing a number of amendments, after it discussed the draft law in its fourteenth session as part of its work for the third regular session of the eleventh legislative term, which was held the day before yesterday at the Council’s headquarters, headed by Her Excellency Halima Humaid Al Owais, President of the Council.
The Council discussed the draft law regulating the University of Arts and the report received from the Committee of Legislative and Legal Affairs, Appeals, Suggestions and Complaints, in the presence of Counselor Dr. Mansour Mohammed bin Nassar, Head of the Legal Department of the Government of Sharjah, Dr. Aisha Mohammed Obaid Bukhatir Al Shamsi, Secretary General of the Sharjah Council for Higher Education and Scientific Research, Counselor Yousef Hassan Al Ali, Director of the Office of Experts and Advisors in the Legal Department, and a number of officials in the department.
Chancellor Dr. Mansour Muhammad bin Nassar explained that the idea of establishing the University of Arts came after the success achieved by the Sharjah Academy for Performing Arts, to be the next step within the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, to establish the University of Arts after annexing the College of Fine Arts and Design at the University of Sharjah to it.
He pointed out the materials included in the project regulating the university’s specializations, especially in its path aimed at preparing graduates to join the creative industry locally and globally, explaining the general vision for proposing the draft law, its legislative and legal importance, and knowing the reasons that led to its preparation in the context of the distinction of the Emirate of Sharjah in universities that are referred to as Lebanon in all specializations.
Council member Obaid Ishaq Al-Mazmi, rapporteur of the Legislative and Legal Affairs, Appeals, Suggestions and Complaints Committee, read out a draft law for the year 2026 AD organizing the University of Arts, reviewing the definitions, objectives, specializations and other legal articles mentioned in the draft law, and it was discussed until it was approved.
