The Director of Electronic Crime Control of the General Administration of Investigations and Criminal Investigation at Dubai Police, Brigadier Saeed Al -Hajri, warned of what is known as romantic fraud, or emotional lure.

Al -Hajri told “Emirates Today” that the problem in this incident is that the deceased himself does not live in Dubai, but rather resides in one of the African country, pointing out that the woman who was suffering from unity and emptiness in her country informed the police and all the measures that help them were taken, so he specified the work team The identity of the fraudster and its location, and met with the link officer regarding the international prosecution, handed the information to the relevant diplomatic authorities, and the case moved to another circle.

He explained that this crime is similar to the skinning of the victims, and is not limited to targeting women only, but also the men also fall into a lesser percentage, pointing out that the fraud is emotionally manipulating his victim until he falls into his net, then he begins to drain them in a cold blood in a style closer to the skinning of the prey.

He pointed out that social media and acquaintance sites facilitated for these fraudsters to use what is known as the “social engineering” of the victim. The majority of the pioneers of these platforms offer all the details of their personal lives through their accounts, so the fraudster is well taught, and determines its weaknesses and then manipulates it by focusing on its interests.

“Imagine that a person knows everything about you, your social, material, and psychological state, and whether you are emotionally saturated or suffers from loneliness and emptiness, adding that this person is a professional in fraud, and has a great ability to manipulate,” Al -Hajri added.
