Kuwait .. Reducing life sentence to 20 years in prison

The Kuwaiti Ministry of Interior announced yesterday evening the issuance of a decision to alleviate the penalty of life sentence in the country, to be 20 years instead of lifelong.

The Kuwaiti Ministry of Interior said in a publication through its official account on the “X” platform, “Acting Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Sheikh Fahd Al -Youssef, issued a decision to form a specialized committee to examine the files of those convicted of life sentence and reduce the period of the punishment to be 20 years, instead of continuing for life associated with permanent hard work.”

The minister called “the leaders of the reformist institutions and the implementation of the provisions to limit the names of the inmates who meet the conditions, 3 months before they completed the period of 20 years, and study them quickly.”

The ministry explained that this came at the directives of the Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Mishaal Al -Ahmad Al -Jaber Al -Sabah.

The Kuwaiti Minister of Interior pointed out that “the step comes within the vision of Kuwait to enhance the reform and qualifying approach within the reform institutions, and to achieve a balance between implementing the punishment and achieving criminal justice, while giving the opportunity to guests to rebuild their lives and integrate into society after spending the duration of their sentence.”
