Palestine in the first quarter of 2025 .. Cultural recession due to the occupation war

Ramallah, on March 15 / WAM / Palestine is witnessing for the third year in a row, a war on everything that is Palestinian, not starting with the human and the home, and no end in the word, as the Israeli war machine cast a shadow over the Palestinian cultural scene, which was limited since the beginning of this year 2025, to a slow movement, most of which were local activities in the West Bank, its presence was limited to the people of each province separately, as a result of the policy of narrowing It is practiced by the occupation authorities on the cities, towns, and villages of Palestine, by deploying more than 898 military checkpoints and a gate, including more than 173 iron gates that were placed after October 7, 2023, of which 17 gates were placed since the beginning of this year 2025.
The occupation war, all sectors, including cultural, have long, and Palestinian culture lost 44 writers, artists and activists in the field of culture who were martyred during the first four months of the war, and 32 institutions, center and theater that were destroyed either partial or completely as a result of the bombing, in addition to the damage of 12 museums and 2100 old dresses and embroidery pieces of holdings in museums or within personal groups, 9 public libraries, and 9 public libraries, and 9 public libraries, and 9 public libraries, And 8 publishing houses and printers.
The occupation mechanisms demolished about 195 historical buildings, most of which are partially or completely in Gaza City, including what is used as cultural centers and community institutions, along with the damage of 9 heritage sites and 10 mosques and historical churches that are part of the sector’s memory.

Since the beginning of this year, the Israeli occupation forces closed two libraries in the city of Jerusalem, and their owners were arrested for several days, under the pretext of selling “inflammatory books”, and the “Jerusalem” library was in Khan al -Zayt in the old town of Jerusalem, the first targeted libraries, followed by the “Scientific Library” on Salah al -Din Street.
Despite the machine of death, eradication and destruction, the Palestinian is still creating, in his homeland and in its western, so Palestine is attending the long list of the International Booker Award 2025, through the English version of the novel “The Travel of Disappearance” of the novelist Ibtisam Azim, translated by the Iraqi novelist Sinan Anton.
According to the award committee, the list consists of thirteen narrative authors, including eleven novels and two collections of stories, and was chosen from among 154 books, in the highest participation rate since the launch of the award in its current version. In its English translation, Azzim was published by the Publications of “The University of Siraches” in the United States of America in 2019, then on “& Atom Stores” in Britain in 2024.
While the novel “Andalusian Christ”, by the Palestinian novelist and researcher, Tayseer Khalaf, published by the Mediterranean publications in Italy, reached the short list of the International Award for Arabic Novel 2025, to compete for the award with five other Arab novels.

It was issued by “Dar Al -Rafidain”, an ontology entitled “Gaza: There is a life before death”, which was accomplished by the two poets Abdul Latif Al -Labi and Yassin Adnan, a book that includes selections from the works of 26 poets and poets from Gaza, and on the “Returning and Distribution” house, the Arabic version of the book “The Oral History of the Nakba of Palestine: Studies and Certificates”, which includes 14 studies for researchers. And history. The book relies on oral history, personal memories, narratives and interviews to study, analyze and represent the Palestinian Nakba.
Also issued by Al -Dar Al -Ahlia in Amman, “Shying Reconstruction: A Hundred Writers and Artists from Gaza write about the war” in two books edited by the novelist Atef Abu Saif. The two books include a diary from Gaza written by a hundred writers and artists during their presence in Gaza during the war, including the novelist, storyteller, poet, literary critic, journalist and political and social researcher, including the actor, director, photographer, plastic artist, content maker and designer.
And on the “Arab Foundation for Studies and Publishing” a book was published: “Habash: The diaries of a writer in a deceased uprising”, in which the writer and novelist Osama Al -Aisa recovers his daily daily uprising in the uprising of Palestine during the years 2015 and 2016, and more than 350 of them rose during the confrontations with the occupation forces.
While the researcher Iyad Sabah, a book: “The impact of the Canaanite civilization on the contemporary Palestinian sculpture”, was issued by the “Lines” house, and it includes in its historical background pages of the Canaanite civilization in terms of geographical location and cultural, political and social life.
Cinema achievements and prizes
The Palestinian film “No Land No Land Land” won an Academy Award in its 97th session for the best long documentary. The film documents the suffering of the Palestinians in the traveler of Yatta, south of Hebron, as a result of the repeated Israeli occupation attacks. It is directed by the Palestinian activist Basil Adra, and the Israeli journalist Yoval Abraham.
The film shows Adra as it resists the forced displacement of Palestinian families in the traveler of Yatta, in addition to the demolitions of homes and housing carried out by the occupation in the traveler. It also highlights the story of a Palestinian family migrated by the occupation government from its home in the traveler in favor of the colonial expansion in the region.
The documentary “deferred recovery” by the captive director in the occupation detention centers, Abdullah Muatman, and the assistant director Rahma Dar Saleh, won the award for the best short film at the Earth Festival that was held on the Italian island of Sardinia, and it is produced by the Foundation for the Documentation Firan International Films – France.
At the beginning of this year, Palestine lost the academic and novelist Ahmed Harb, who was born in Al Dhahiria in the city of Hebron in 1951, and obtained a Bachelor’s degree in English Literature from the University of Jordan, and obtained a master’s degree and doctorate in the comparative English literature from Iowa University in the United States of America.
The novel of the first war in 1981 was entitled “A Return”, followed by novels: “Ismail” (1987), “The other side of the land of the host” (1994) and won the Prize of the State of Palestine for the novel in 1997, “The remains” (1997), and “Ascending to the minaret” (2008), and finally “The Decree”, which some classified by some novel, and the other is a biography, and there is a biography, “Novilla”, or a hybrid narrative composition, was issued in 2023.
The late was distinguished by a prominent academic march, where he worked as a professor of comparative English literature at Birzeit University since 1987, and held several prominent academic and administrative positions, the last of which was the chairmanship of the Palestine Awards Jury in Arts, Arts and Humanities in 2019.
