المملكة: Saudi Green Initiative .. Kingdom Road to reach the zero neutrality

On March 19, 2024 AD, the Council of Ministers agreed to determine the twenty -seventh of March of each year an official day for the Saudi Green Initiative, under the name “Saudi Green Initiative”, to raise awareness of the importance of environmental work, and to affirm the importance of raising awareness of the positive impact of the ongoing environmental efforts in various parts of the Kingdom since the launch of the initiative in 2021 AD, and to enhance the efforts of society and institutions towards achieving environmental sustainability.
His Royal Highness Prince Muhammad bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince, Prime Minister – may God protect him – launched on October 23, 2021 AD “Saudi Green Initiative”, with the aim of activating the role of all groups of society in climate and environmental work, and achieving the Kingdom’s ambition to reach the zero neutrality by 2060 AD.

The goals of the Saudi Green Initiative

The goals of the Saudi Green Initiative were formulated with the aim of enabling the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to expand its efforts at all levels as part of a sustainable road map towards achieving the goal of zero neutrality.
It supervises the implementation of initiatives and achieving the goals of two specialized committees, namely the Energy and Climate Change Committee, and the Environmental Committee, and the two committees work to mobilize the efforts of the public and private sectors to ensure effective coordination and in line with all activities with the highest international standards.
In 2021 AD, a first package was announced that includes more than 60 initiatives and a project with investments exceeding 700 billion Saudi riyals to contribute to the development of the green economy.

Protection of biological diversity

In late 2024 AD, the number of current initiatives reached 86 initiatives representing investments worth more than 705 billion Saudi riyals (188 billion dollars) and contributing to achieving the three goals of the Saudi Green Initiative.
These initiatives range from afforestation efforts and the protection of biological diversity to reducing emissions and creating new natural reserves.
The Kingdom has tangible progress in terms of increasing dependence on clean energy sources, restoring green natural spaces, and protecting biological diversity.
The Kingdom also aspires to become the largest source and producer of the world in the world in 2030, with the detention of more than 27 million tons of carbon dioxide bonus by producing four million tons of clean hydrogen annually.

Transformation in the energy sector

The achievements achieved by the initiative according to its goals include: the continuous and remarkable progress witnessed by the Kingdom in the field of accelerating the path of transformation in the energy sector, with the aim of raising the electricity production capacities of approximately 50% of renewable energy from natural gas by 2030 AD.
The Kingdom also witnessed the linking of renewable energy projects with a capacity of 1.3 GB to the national electricity network, bringing the total capacity of the energy sources used to 4.1 GB, that is, enough to supply more than 750 thousand homes with electric power, in addition to starting 4 highly efficient gas stations that work with electricity with a total capacity of approximately 5.6 GB. In an effort to reach 130 gigs by 2030 and achieve the goal of the Saudi Green Initiative of Reducing Emissions by 278 million tons annually by 2030.
Achievements included cultivating more than 100 million trees since the launch of the Saudi Green Initiative in 2021 AD, in addition to the prose of millions of seeds in order to develop vegetation cover and confront the phenomenon of sand crawling, and rehabilitate more than 118 thousand hectares of deteriorating lands, which is more than 172 thousand football fields, in a way that contributes to achieving the interim goal of reclaiming 8 million hectares of deteriorating lands by public solutions 2032.

Sustainable afforestation efforts

For the cultivation of 10 billion trees, one of the main initiative goals, the Kingdom has announced a road map to enhance sustainable afforestation efforts.
The percentage of protected wild areas (18.1%) and the percentage of protected marine areas (6.49%) of the total area of ​​the Kingdom.
Since the start of the initiative in 2021 AD, more than 7000 innate being, including endangered animals, including the Asian Houbara, red neck, wild rabbit, Al -Reem, Adami, Arab Oryx, mountainous, cat, plateing punishment, black punishment, Egyptian eagle, long -guilt, gambling, and quail The growing natural reserves in the Kingdom.
The efforts to protect normal life contributed to the birth of seven young Arab tiger in 2023, within the framework of the program to re -multiply and protect the endangered species in Taif Governorate.

Wild beings multiplication centers

In 2024, the Kingdom announced the birth of four cubs for the fisherman for the first time in 40 years, which was a prominent achievement in the framework of the national program for resettling the leopard.
In addition, more than 110 of the ostriches with the endangered red neck in the centers of fungi of fungal organisms during the year 2024 AD as well, which embodies the Kingdom’s success in resettling this type after its extinction from the natural environment 100 years ago.
In December 2024, the King Salman bin Abdulaziz Reserve Development Authority announced a new strategic achievement represented in cultivating more than (2,400,000) seedlings, rehabilitating 700 thousand hectares, removing 119 tons of harmful waste, and spreading 4 tons of local seeds in the King Salman bin Abdulaziz Reserve.
The Imam Abdulaziz bin Muhammad Al -Royal Reserve Development Authority also announced a new strategic achievement represented in cultivating more than (1,500,000) trees and trees inside the reserve, Imam Abdulaziz bin Muhammad Al -Royal and King Khalid Al -Royal Reserve.
