“Abu Dhabi Environment” and “Emirates Nature”, the new strategy for citizenship science

The Environment Authority – Abu Dhabi, and the Emirates Association for Nature, announced the founding partners of the “Communication with Nature” program, within the framework of “The Year of Society”, the launch of the new strategy 2025-2029, aimed at enabling a new generation of young leaders in the field of environmental preservation, by promoting citizenship science.

A memorandum of understanding was signed between the Secretary -General of the Environment Authority – Abu Dhabi, Dr. Sheikha Salem Al Dhaheri, and the Director General of the Emirates Nature Society, Laila Mustafa Abdel Latif, in cooperation with the World Fund for Nature, with the aim of renewing the long -term partnership between the two parties, regarding the details of implementing the new strategy.

The 2025-2029 strategy depends on the great success of the “Communication with Nature” program, after reaching more than 2.5 million young people since its foundation in 2019.

The program links young people to nature, and it allows students in government and private schools in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Al Dhafra, the opportunity to participate in field activities to preserve the environment and citizenship.

Dr. Sheikha Salem Al Dhaheri said: “The new five -year strategy represents an important stage in our march towards enhancing environmental responsibility in society, and preparing leaders who are able to bring about environmental change. By integrating the science of citizenship and practical experiences in preserving the environment within school programs and activities, we are working to create an environmental system that combines knowledge and work to achieve the green economy, in line with the UAE Vision 2030 ».

She added, “Our partnership with the Emirates Association for Nature, in cooperation with the World Fund for Nature, provides the opportunity to expand the scope of the program strategically, which guarantees our joint efforts and our cooperation in protecting our natural heritage, and pushing towards a green and sustainable future for future generations.”

The series of new field trips for the “Contact with Nature” program in schools accommodates 2000 students annually, which gives them a unique opportunity to work with environmental preservation experts and environmental scientists, starting from trips in Crimea forests to measure the growth of new seedlings, to rowing in coastal areas, and contributing to the formulation of environmental policies, with the aim of enhancing students’ appreciation of nature and contributing to the protection of the environment.
