During a phone call: The President of the State and the President of the European Commission agrees to launch negotiations on the comprehensive economic partnership agreement

Abu Dhabi, April 10 / WAM / His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, “may God protect him” and His Excellency Ursula von der Line, President of the European Commission – agreed during a phone call today – to launch negotiations on the comprehensive economic partnership agreement between the UAE and the European Union.
During the communication, His Highness, the President of the State, affirmed the depth of relations that link the UAE and the European Union and the joint keenness to strengthen it in a way that supports mutual interests of both sides, especially at the economic level.
His Highness pointed out that the launch of negotiations on the comprehensive economic partnership with the European Union confirms the keenness of the two parties to invest the potential for cooperation to achieve a qualitative shift in their economic, commercial and investment relations in the interest of joint development.
His Highness the President of the State added that the comprehensive economic partnership agreement will open, after its completion, new paths of cooperation between the UAE and the European Union and increase trade and investment flows and enhance partnerships between the business community on both sides .. His Highness stressed that the UAE and European Union relations are based on a common vision that establishes stability and stimulates growth and prosperity.
For its part, His Excellency Ursula von der Line, President of the European Commission, affirmed the strength of relations between the UAE and the European Union, noting that the launch of negotiations on a comprehensive economic partnership agreement between the two sides express the joint trend towards a more powerful and vital stage in economic relations.
His Excellency Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al -Zyoudi, Minister of State for Foreign Trade and His Excellency Valdes Dombrovscis, the Commissioner of Trade to the European Union, signed a declaration of joint intentions to start negotiations on the comprehensive economic partnership agreement between the UAE and the European Union.
The European Union is the second largest commercial partner for the UAE, with 8.3% of the total non -oil foreign trade of the state.
During the year 2024, the value of non -oil trade between the two sides reached 67.6 billion dollars with a growth rate of 3.6% compared to the previous year, as the UAE is the investment partner and the largest export destination for the European Union in the Middle East and North Africa region..and during the reduction of customs duties and unnecessary barriers to trade and improve the access of goods and services to the markets is expected to open the comprehensive economic partnership agreement between the UAE and the European Union with prospects New for cooperation within the main sectors that include advanced manufacturing, health care, logistics services, artificial intelligence and others.
