"Unkad " It calls for the exemption of the weakest and smaller economies from the new customs tariffs

Geneva, April 14/ WAM/ The United Nations Trade and Development Organization called on “Onctad” to exempt the developing and weak countries “the weakest and smallest economies” from the new customs tariffs increases, especially in light of the cracks of those economies, which in turn are slightly affected by the trade balance deficit.

The organization stated in a report issued today, “Monday” in Geneva, that over the years, the global trade system based on the bases contributed to promoting international trade with a gradual decrease and steady in customs definitions, a tax imposed by countries on imported goods … and pointed out that in 2023, about two -thirds of world trade was carried out without customs definitions.

She explained that the most striking tariff wave imposed by major economies recently raises concerns about the escalation of commercial tensions and their impact on developing countries.

In her report, under the title “The Customs Customs Consultation: Impact on Small and Weak Economics”, she pointed out that mutual tariffs threaten – in many cases – to destroy developing and less developed economies without significantly reduce the US trade balance deficit or an increase in revenue.

The organization noted that the 57 commercial partners concerned – 11 of them are among the least developed countries – and contribute slightly to the US trade balance deficit.

The report warned that if the customs duties are imposed again, it is likely that the demand for many imported goods is likely to decrease due to high prices, and added that even if the levels of American imports remain at 2024 levels, the additional customs revenues collected from the poorest and smallest economies will be small.
