The Syrian ambassador to Moscow requests to resort to Russia

The Russian news agency, “TASS”, quoted a source on Monday as saying that the Syrian ambassador to Moscow, Bashar Al -Jaafari, requested to resort to Russia.

The agency did not report any details about the request made by Al -Jaafari, who appointed an ambassador to Russia in 2022 after 15 years of assuming the position of Permanent Syrian envoy to the United Nations.

Reuters has not yet been able to contact Al -Jaafari, 69. The Syrian embassy in Moscow has not yet received a request for comment.

Russian President Vladimir Putin granted the right to asylum to former Syrian President Bashar al -Assad after he traveled to Moscow with his family after his overthrow at the end of last year.

Official media reported that the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned Al -Jaafari and a Syrian ambassador to Saudi Arabia to Damascus last week, and said that the move comes within the framework of the reorganization of the diplomatic corps after the fall of Assad.

Al -Jaafari was one of the most important international envoys of the former regime and an explicit defender of the Syrian government during the 14 -year civil war, including his rejection of accusations of carrying out attacks by chemical weapons.
