المملكة: A spiral fly affects Mexico cattle and prevents exporting it to the United States

Because of the so -called spiral worm fly, which is currently infected with Mexican livestock, the United States may have to impose restrictions on importing these livestock, if the Mexican government does not intensify the fight against this scourge.
US Agriculture Minister Brock Rollins said in a message to her Mexican counterpart that her country “will impose restrictions on importing animal goods” if this problem is not solved, noting that Mexico reduced the days of air spraying to eliminate the lesion, and imposed exorbitant customs duties on companies that spray.

Rare cases
The spiral worm fly can be infected with livestock and wildlife, and in rare cases, as flies larvae feed on the skin of living animals, causing severe damage, and often fatal.
Before the discovery of the spiral worm fly, Mexico was the largest resource for livestock for the United States. Last month, the United States imported 24,000 livestock from Mexico, a decrease from about 114,000 heads in the previous year, according to the US Department of Agriculture.
The United States prevented the shipments of Mexican livestock in late November after the discovery of the lesion, then this ban was lifted in February based on new protocols to assess animal health before entering the country.
