Within the activities "Abu Dhabi Book"A Saudi academic provides his vision of the critical approach

Abu Dhabi, May 2 / WAM / Dr. Abdullah Al -Ghazami, Professor of Literary Criticism and winner of the Sheikh Zayed Book Award for the year 2022 for the cultural category category, presented during an intellectual session at the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair organized by the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Center .. A comprehensive vision on the concept of the curriculum in criticism, stressing that criticism is not just a literary practice, but an integrated intellectual system based on precise tools and specific function.
He said that the absence of a function from the critical process empties it from its true content, and turns it into superficial impressions, which move away from constructive analysis, pointing to the essential difference between literary criticism that is concerned with style and aesthetics, and cultural criticism that deals with texts as assets for social and cultural structure.
And between the food, in detail for the six elements that he sees as the basis in any sound critical process: the sender, which is the product of the speech; The one who is sent to him, who is the audience or the recipient; The message, which takes an emotional nature if it is centered around the sender, or a beneficial nature if directed to the recipient; The context, as the reference that gives the message its meaning; Code, i.e. vocabulary, structures and cultural connotations; Finally, the communication tool, which stimulates the recipient’s awareness and performs a alert function, explaining that these components do not achieve their full meaning except through their functional performance and its integration within the critical approach.
Speaking of structuralism, he pointed out that talking about “the death of structuralism” is not accurate; While the focus on the “action” retreated, the focus on the “structure” remained existing and influential, considering that the training of critics to detect the structure within the texts gives them the ability to provide logical readings based on concrete components, away from gels.
He stressed that the establishment of a mature monetary system that does not need more than one disciplined critical awareness, and a systematic effort that turns the text into an open field for understanding and analysis.
Al -Ghazami concluded his intervention by emphasizing that criticism is not exclusive to the elite, but rather a skill that can be learned and acquired through training and practice, noting that the essence of criticism lies in the objective dealing with the texts, respect for its internal structure, and building accurate readings based on clear data, contributing to promoting Arab cultural dialogue, and returning to criticism its position as an intellectual tool and a means to understand reality and develop it.
