Guterres calls for an immediate and lasting ceasefire in Gaza and welcomes the release of an American-Israeli hostage

Guterres – in a statement attributed to his spokesman – expressed a deep satisfaction with the release of Alexander and his return to his family and loved ones after “this horrific ordeal.”

The Secretary -General renewed his urgent call for a permanent immediate ceasefire, and the immediate and unconditional release of all the remaining hostages, stressing the need for hostages with humanity and dignity.

Guterres called on all parties to ensure the arrival of humanitarian relief, quickly and without obstacles, including the provision of vital services, for all civilians in need immediately. The Secretary -General confirmed that “Aid is not negotiable.”

The Secretary -General praised the continuous efforts made by the brokers – Egypt, Qatar and the United States – to end hostile works. He urged all parties to build on the release process that took place today to reach a comprehensive agreement that guarantees the release of all hostages, ending hostilities, providing humanitarian aid, and the long -awaited mitigation of the humanitarian suffering in Gaza.
