The meeting between Putin and Zellinski “is possible” with this condition

The Kremlin announced on Saturday that the meeting was “possible” between Russian Presidents Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian Folodimir Zellinski, provided that it was preceded by “agreements” concluded between Moscow and Kiev, the day after the first direct negotiations between the two parties since the spring of 2022, which did not lead to a truce.
The Russian army continues to bomb towns and villages in Ukraine since the war began in February 2022, killing nine people in the north of the country at night, according to Kiev.
A week later, the severe tension, Kiev and Moscow held the first direct talks between them since the spring of the year 2022 in Istanbul, which showed the size of the gap that should be filed to end the conflict.

Zellinski and Putin meeting

The Ukrainian delegation called mainly from the Russians to a “unconditional” ceasefire and a meeting between Zellinski and Putin, and only obtained the exchange of a thousand prisoners from each camp, as the Russian delegation confirmed.
For his part, Vladimir Midinski, a consultant to Putin from the second row, and the chief negotiator from the Russian side, confirmed that Moscow “took note” at Kiev’s request to hold a summit between the two presidents.
“The application of what the two delegations agreed remains yesterday, and it is related to the first to exchange a thousand prisoners” from both sides.

Peskov added that “such a meeting, which is the fruit of the work of the two parties and the conclusion of agreements, is possible, but only after reaching agreements between the two sides.”
The Kremlin adheres to the demands: that Ukraine abandons the idea of joining NATO, to give up four of its parts partially controlled by Russia, in addition to the Crimean Peninsula that it included in 2014, and that the shipments of Western weapons stop.
Ukraine and its European allies reject these demands and confirm that the Russian army, which still controls about 20% of the Ukrainian lands, seeks to expand in this previous Soviet Republic.
