The seventy -eighth association’s agenda is filled with many topics in discussion, including preparedness for epidemics, climate -related risks, mental health, motherhood care and environmental justice. But with escalating geopolitical tensions, international cooperation will be formed in these vital issues and others.
Here are some of the most prominent areas that are expected to dominate the discussion.
1- Approving a draft agreement on the panels and “cautious optimism”
The Kofid-19 pandemic showed that there is flagrant disparities in reaching diagnoses, treatments and vaccines, whether within or between countries. I was weight to healthcare services, economies have been severely disrupted, and nearly seven million people lost their lives.
This was the motive behind the concerted efforts of countries to work on an agreement that guarantees the world’s dealings with the next way in a more just and efficient way. And when the delegates arrive in Geneva on Monday, May 19 – the day of the start of the association’s meetings – they will discuss the text of the agreement, which was described by the Director General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Gipriceus, as “Vital for future generations”.
If the agreement is adopted, it will be a major achievement in the way the world deals with epidemics and health crises.
However, negotiations are still politically sensitive. Several countries, including the United States, have expressed concerns about national sovereignty and intellectual property rights.
But in recent weeks, the general manager of the organization has expressed “Cautious optimism” On the possibility of consensus in opinions.
2- Climate change: an existential threat
The climate crisis is not only limited to high temperatures, but rather it endangers souls, as extremist air phenomena and spreading diseases are increasing, which threatens the health of millions.
The action plan developed by the World Health Organization calls for concerted climate and health policies, enhancing the ability to withstand, and ensuring the necessary funding to protect weak societies.
The draft plan was issued after a decision that was adopted at the 2024 meeting. This year, delegates are expected to put the touches on the draft, which includes strategies to adapt to the health risks associated with climate and alleviate their severity.

The campaign, entitled “A Health Beginning for a Promising Future”, urges governments and the health sector to intensify efforts to end the deaths of the new mothers and newborns that can be prevented, and to give priority to the health and well -being of women in the long run.
It is expected to announce new goals and renewed obligations to end the prevention deaths in the association.

Infectious diseases, such as heart disease, cancer and diabetes, lead to the lives of tens of millions of people every year. About three quarters of these deaths are located in low and medium -income countries.
Many lives can be saved if more countries adopt effective national responses, including detection, examination and treatment, in addition to palliative care.
In preparation for the World Health Organization meeting on non -communicable diseases and mental health in September, delegates will review how the organization cooperates with governments, civil society and the private sector to prevent and combat these diseases, and discuss ways to improve access to basic drugs and health techniques.
