Salem Abdul Rahman is close to the forefront"Sharjah for chess teachers"

Sharjah, May 24 / WAM / The competitions of the Sharjah International Chess Championship, organized by the Sharjah Chess Club, will be concluded tomorrow evening, under the generous patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, with the participation of 350 players and players from 60 countries.

The tournament witnessed the brilliance of our national team player and Sharjah Chess Club, the great international professor Salem Abdul Rahman, who advanced to second place in the overall ranking after winning the sixth round of the Serbian Alexander Endjic, raising his score to 5 points, to separate him from the lead only half a point.

The ranking leads Dutch international professor Anish Jerry with 5.5 points after drawing with the Uzbek Nodirbbe, the first seed in the championship, in a public meeting that had a wide follow -up on the global platforms. The second place with Salem Abdul Rahman is participating in the Armenians, the Armenian Shant Sarkisian, the Serbian Alexander Indigic and Felimir Efic, in addition to the Uzbek Abdul Sattarouf.

The sixth round witnessed the attendance of a number of personalities represented by the Sharjah Centro Hotel – the official sponsor of the tournament alongside Abdullah Murad Al -Mazmi, the championship director, and the competitions visited His Excellency Tarim Matar Tarim, President of the Emirates Chess Federation.

His Excellency Tarim Matar Tarim stressed during his visit that the tournament made great technical gains thanks to the participation of a group of state players and their friction with international schools, indicating that organizing such tournaments on the country’s land enhances the capabilities of the players and reduces the need for external camps. He also thanked the Board of Directors of the Sharjah Chess Club, headed by Sheikh Dr. Khalid bin Humaid Al Qasimi, praising the quality of the organization and the position occupied by the tournament on the international agenda.

For his part, Daniel Norman, General Manager of Sharjah Centro Hotel, expressed pride that they are part of the success of the championship as sponsors, stressing the hotel’s commitment to continuing to support the sporting events organized by the Sharjah Chess Club.
The closing ceremony of the championship will be held and crowning the winners tomorrow evening after the seventh and final round.
