The UAE as head of the Arab regional branch of the International Archive Council

Abu Dhabi, June 19/ WAM/ His Excellency Dr. Abdullah Majid Al Ali, Director General of Archive and the National Library, was elected head of the Arab Regional Branch of the International Archive Council, representing the UAE.
This election comes as a culmination of a busy march of achievements achieved by the archive and the national library at the local, Arab and international levels, and the rapid development it witnessed in various areas of archiving and documentation, which established its position as a pioneering institution in preserving the national memory and preserving the documentary heritage, and contributed to the establishment of its imprint affecting the cultural and Arab archive scene.
On this occasion, His Excellency Dr. Abdullah Majid Al Ali expressed his pride in this confidence, stressing that the archive and the national library, as an active member of the International Archive Council since 1975, is proud to be at the forefront of the Arab archive institutions that have this international appreciation.
His Excellency added: “We consider this trust honor and assignment, and we will make the utmost efforts to enhance the protection and maintenance of Arab documentary heritage, and work to spread international best practices and standards in the areas of archiving and documentation, as well as building capacity and skills that keep pace with the rapid developments in this vital sector, and enable the next generation of Arab archives.
He stressed the pivotal role played by the archives in preserving the memory of nations and peoples, stressing the necessity of concerted efforts to upgrade the Arab archive system, by consolidating the leading professional experiences, mobilizing joint energies, and cooperation between the loyal professionals and specialists who realize that protecting the archives of their homelands is honest and historical responsibility.
He said: “We are confident that the next stage will witness more coordination and exchange of experiences between archives in the Arab countries, as well as expanding the horizons of partnership with international professional institutions and organizations related to organizing and managing archives, in a way that contributes to the development of this vital sector, and enhancing its role in supporting cultural and cognitive development.”
