Mohammed bin Rashid Library tells the story of a homeland through a rare collection of stamps

Dubai, June 25 / WAM / The Mohammed bin Rashid Library, in cooperation with the Emirates Stamp Amateur Association, organized a cultural event entitled “Emirati treasures sealed in history from memory archives to generations’ possessions” with the aim of highlighting the importance of stamps and ancient currencies in documenting the history of the state and enhancing awareness of heritage between the youth and those interested in heritage holdings.

The event witnessed the opening of the stamps and currency exhibition in the presence of His Excellency Mohammed Ahmed Al -Murr, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Library Foundation, and Abdullah Khoury, President of the Emirates Stamp Amateur Association, along with members of the association, and a number of interested people, as the exhibition included a rare set of stamps that document the stages of the UAE’s development from before the union until today.

Among the most prominent exhibits is the postage of postage dating back to 1908, documenting the beginnings of postal communication between the cities of Gulf and India and Muscat, which reflects a rich history of the movement of trade and cultural exchange between the region and the world and provides a glimpse of the development of means of communication in the beginnings of the twentieth century.

His Excellency Mohammed Ahmed Al -Murr stressed that the exhibition comes within the efforts of the Mohammed bin Rashid Library to preserve and introduce the national heritage, noting that the stamps constitute a visual record that documents important stations from the history of the state and contribute to the transfer of this cultural heritage of generations.

The accompanying cultural program included a workshop entitled “How to become a professional stamp mosque” presented by Ahmed Abdel -Latif Al -Khalidi, as well as a dialogue session on the hobby of collecting stamps moderated by Wafaa Al -Muhaisen, and Abdullah Khoury and Ali Wang Degon participated, where the importance of this hobby was reviewed in preserving the national identity and enhancing cultural awareness.

The event comes within the national identity program implemented by the Mohammed bin Rashid Library to enhance the society’s connection with its cultural roots.
