135 oil tankers and several companies .. Britain targets Russia with new sanctions
In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that sanctions were also imposed on a shipping services company and an oil trade company, as part of the campaign on a fleet “responsible for transporting goods worth 24 billion dollars in violation methods since the beginning of 2024.”
British sanctions against Russia
Security analysts say Russia is using a fleet of old ships to circumvent the international sanctions that prevent it from selling oil.
The European Union and the United Kingdom have imposed sanctions on hundreds of ships since Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered the invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
“The new sanctions will dismantle the shadow fleet that Putin uses more and depleted the important oil revenues to finance the Russian war’s treasury,” said British Foreign Secretary David Lami.
Sanctions on several companies
The ministry said that the sanctions were imposed a few days after “the United Kingdom and the European Union reduced the ceiling of crude oil prices, to put more obstacles to the flow of oil funds to the Putin Military Fund.”
The British government imposed sanctions on several companies linked to the Russian Oil Company “for its continuous role in transporting large quantities of Russian oil on board the shadow fleet ships.”
Lami said: “While Putin continues to procrastinate and procrastinate in serious peace talks, we will not stand idly by … We will continue to use the entire power of our sanctions system to increase economic pressure at every turn.”
