المملكة: 69 deaths were recorded due to drowning in southern and western Riyadh since 2022

The Riyadh Health Rally revealed the registration of 69 deaths due to drowning from 2022 until mid -2025 in the south and west of Riyadh.
It included different age groups, as most of these cases occurred in home pools, restrooms, and water pools.

Save drowning cases

On the other hand, the joint efforts contributed to rescuing 96 cases during the same period, through rapid reporting, providing first aid, and urgent transfer to the emergency departments in the assembly facilities.
According to the statistics, the year 2022 witnessed the record of 21 deaths and 21 survival cases, while the number of deaths in 2023 increased to 22, compared to 34 survival cases.
In 2024, deaths fell to 16, compared to 41 survival cases, while 10 deaths have been recorded since the beginning of 2025 until now.

In the context of its preventive efforts, the gathering launched a comprehensive awareness campaign on the occasion of the International Day for the Prevention of drowning, which coincides with the twenty -fifth of July of each year, in order to enhance societal safety, and to activate the decision of the Council of Ministers to adopt the Kingdom for this day, in a step that embodies the keenness of the rational leadership to protect lives and support priority health initiatives.

Rescue skills training

The campaign included a number of health gathering facilities, as well as organizing awareness activities, with the aim of reaching various segments of society and providing preventive guidelines, especially during the summer season.
The Riyadh Health Rally stressed that the prevention of drowning is a shared responsibility that begins with awareness, and extends to the speed of response and proper behavior in critical moments.
Stressing that every death can be avoided by following safety guidelines, training in rescue and first aid skills, which contributes to protecting lives and achieving the quality of life, within the targets of the Kingdom’s 2030 vision.
