Strong winds and droughts fueled fires in Greece

A heat wave tightened its grip on Europe, which contributed to the outbreak of fires, and the fire prompted thousands of residents to evacuate their homes, and Greece asked for help from the European Union to combat more than 100 forest fires, fueled by strong winds and droughts, while the most dangerous of these fires erupted on the famous tourist island Village, according to firefighters.
The heat wave began last week, and the heat touched 46 degrees Celsius in some regions of Greece, and 42 degrees in the capital, Athens, and last Saturday, the highest temperature in western Greece in the Amivlukhia region was recorded, reaching 45.2 degrees Celsius, according to the website of the National Observatory. The damage includes forests, agricultural lands, homes, cattle farms, warehouses, vehicles, small churches, and stores, at a time when the electrical current was cut off after a local sub -power plant was damaged, and the fires that swept rural areas and forests near four villages in Zante led to the issuance of evacuating orders towards the city of Zakinthus.
