At a cost of more than 4 billion dirhams … the implementation of major projects to enhance water security in Sharjah

Sharjah, on August 20/ WAM/ in implementation of the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, and within his highness, aimed at strengthening the water security system in the emirate, the Electricity, Water and Gas Authority is implementing a group of strategic projects aimed at developing the infrastructure of the water network in various areas of Sharjah at a cost of more than 4 billion dirhams.

These projects coincide with the establishment of the independent Hamriyah water desalination plant, which His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah laid the foundation stone with a production capacity of 90 million gallons per day, which enhances the emirate’s ability to meet the increasing demand for water in the future.

Engineer Faisal Al -Serkal, Director of Water Management at the Authority, explained that the projects being implemented include the construction of three pumping stations, and nine water tanks with a total capacity of 180 million gallons, in the areas of Al -Zubair, Al -Badia, and Al -Birr, in addition to the implementation of major water transport lines that extend to about 245 km, at a total cost of more than 4 billion dirhams.

He pointed out that these projects would support the infrastructure of water networks and ensure the efficiency of transporting water produced from stations to Sharjah and the central region, in a way that meets the current and future needs of the population.

He pointed out that the commission started implementing a major transport line from the Al -Houma area to Al -Falaj station, with a diameter of 1600 mm and a length of 8 km, at an estimated cost of 105.5 million dirhams, and is scheduled to be completed during the fourth quarter of this year.

He noted that this project is part of a strategic transmission line with a total length of 77 km that links the Hamriyah station with Al -Falaj station, at a total cost of 645 million dirhams, indicating that specialized contractors were assigned to implement it according to the highest specifications and standards.

He explained that the authority appointed contractors to implement tank projects and pumping stations, where the cost of the Al -Zubayr project reaches about 505 million dirhams, the Bedi is 460 million dirhams, and the bird is 446.85 million dirhams, and it is expected that the implementation of these projects will be completed during the third quarter of 2027.
