An agreement of 500 million dollars to finance the electrical linking project between Oman and the Gulf

Muscat, September 11 / WAM / The Gulf Electric Electricity Authority and the International Sohar Bank signed a phased financing agreement of $ 500 million to support the implementation of the direct electrical linking project between the authority’s network and the Sultanate of Oman to enhance energy security at the region level and increase trade and energy exchange opportunities between the Gulf Cooperation Council countries in a strategic step that reflects the depth of Gulf integration.

The project includes the establishment of a dual -circuit electrical line with a 400 km voltage that connects the commodity station of the Electrical Link Authority in the UAE and the Hebrew station that will be established by the authority in the Sultanate of Oman, with a total length of 530 km.

The project includes the establishment of two 400 km transportation stations in the Bagari region of the Sultanate of Oman and the Benouna region in the UAE, equipped with advanced systems for control, protection and communication to ensure efficiency, reliability and safety, and the project will be provided with a dynamic mow “Statcom” to enhance the stability of networks and increase the transportation capacity, providing a total capacity of 1,600 megawatts.

The project is a strategic step towards the integration of Gulf energy networks, as it represents a vital initiative to enhance the reliability and sustainability of electricity systems in the region, in line with the global trends to develop energy infrastructure and achieve sustainable development goals.

It is expected that the project will achieve economic savings in productive capabilities, operating and fuel costs, in addition to enhancing energy exchange capabilities between the countries of the Cooperation Council and the Sultanate of Oman, which contributes to raising the flexibility and stability of networks, as well as its role in reducing carbon emissions in support of environmental goals.

His Excellency Eng. Mohsen bin Hamad Al -Hadrami, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Gulf Electricity Authority, said that the project represents a qualitative shift in the process of integrating electricity networks in the countries of the Cooperation Council, explaining that it will enhance the status of the Sultanate of Oman as a pivotal energy exchange center in the region.

He pointed out that the direct link will contribute to raising the efficiency of networks and achieving concrete economic and environmental savings, in line with the goals of Oman Vision 2040 and the visions of the joint council states in the field of sustainable energy.
