The first round of political consultations between the UAE and the African Union Commission

Abu Dhabi, September 13 / WAM / The first round of political consultations between the UAE and the African Union Commission in Abu Dhabi was held, based on the Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2019, and within the framework of joint keenness to strengthen partnership and consolidate cooperation in various fields, in addition to the recent memorandum of understanding signed in July 2025 regarding the health partnership in the continent.

The two sides agreed to move forward in achieving concrete results by intensifying technical coordination on issues of common concern, and holding regular political consultations to follow up on progress.

In the context of the recent developments in the region, the two sides expressed their full solidarity with the sisterly State of Qatar regarding the blatant and cowardly attacks launched by Israel, which represents a direct threat to regional and international security and stability.

The Chairman of the African Union Commission also renewed the Union’s support for the UAE’s sovereignty over its occupied islands: Tunb Al -Kubra, Al -Minor, and Abu Musa.

During the consultations, the two sides emphasized the close relations that link the UAE to the African continent, with its geographical proximity and solid historical and social ties, in addition to the momentum reflected by mutual visits, the most recent of which is the visit of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, may God protect him, to Angola, which acquires special importance in light of the current Angola presidency of the African Union and its role in the efforts The continent.

The economic dimension of the partnership has also been highlighted, as the UAE has become the largest investor in Africa, based on a vision based on enhancing joint development, expanding investments in the infrastructure, energy and sustainable development sectors, and providing job opportunities, in line with the priorities of the continent in the fields of electricity, digitization, empowerment of women and youth.

The two sides dealt with a number of regional issues of common concern, including developments in the Horn of Africa, Sudan, Central Africa and the Sahel region, stressing the importance of concerted efforts to enhance security and stability, and the important role that the UAE has played during its membership in the United Nations Security Council (2022-2023) in defending African issues and enhancing coordination with the group of the three African countries in the Council.

The consultations were concluded by emphasizing the commitment of the two sides to continue developing the partnership between the UAE and the African Union in a way that enhances security, stability and sustainable development on the continent.

The consultations were also followed by a meeting of His Excellency Reem Bint Ibrahim Al Hashemi, Minister of State for International Cooperation, and His Excellency Mahmoud Ali Youssef, President of the African Union Commission, where ways of enhancing cooperation in the fields of investment and renewable energy, support for youth and women were reviewed and activated their role in development.
