Saving a seventy-year-old man from an aortic aneurysm without surgical intervention at Al Salam Hospital in Port Said

The General Health Care Authority announced the success of the medical team at Al Salam Hospital in Port Said, in carrying out a complex intervention carried out for the first time within the authority’s hospitals and under the umbrella of comprehensive health insurance, where a seventy-year-old beneficiary was saved who was suffering from a severe aneurysm of the aorta and another aneurysm of the popliteal artery with a high degree of risk.
The authority explained that the medical decision came to rely on catheterization instead of surgery, given the patient’s suffering from chronic kidney failure due to which he undergoes For periodic dialysis sessions, in addition to coronary artery failure, weak heart muscle, and severe high blood pressure, which makes traditional surgical intervention extremely dangerous.
She continued: The two interventions were performed together during one session through catheters and covered stents without any surgical intervention, as aortic aneurysms were treated with EVAR technology, in addition to treatment of popliteal artery aneurysms using Covera stents, in an operation recorded as the first of its kind within the Authority’s facilities, which reflects the readiness of its hospitals to provide accurate services. And complex according to the highest international standards.
Dr. Ahmed Al-Sabki, President of the General Authority for Health Care and General Supervisor of the Comprehensive Health Insurance Project, said that the success of the operation reflects the ability of the Authority’s facilities to provide advanced medical service in accordance with international quality standards, stressing that the patient only bore 482 pounds as a contribution rate under the umbrella of comprehensive health insurance, while the cost of the operation outside comprehensive coverage exceeds two million pounds.
The head of the Health Care Authority confirmed that the authority’s cadres have, today, The ability to carry out complex operations is comparable to those performed in major international treatment centers, stressing that this achievement is a new testimony to the competence of the Egyptian doctor and his high potential. He added that the Authority continues to expand advanced training and adopt the latest medical technologies to ensure the highest standards of quality and patient safety, and to support its ability to respond to complex cases.
For his part, Dr. Ahmed Hassan Salem, Director of the Port Said Health Care Authority branch, said that this success reflects the advanced readiness of the comprehensive health insurance system in the governorate, and its ability to provide services. High precision, relying on national cadres and equipment that matches international standards, noting that performing this high-risk intervention without surgery demonstrates the great development of medical infrastructure, and the continued institutional support to provide advanced treatment solutions for beneficiaries.
The procedure was carried out within the Vascular Surgery Department at Al Salam Port Said Hospital, headed by Dr. Mohamed Labib, Consultant and Head of the Department at Al Salam Port Said Hospital, and the medical team included Dr. Ahmed Fikry, Dr. Ahmed Ramadan, and Dr. Mahmoud.
