“Bustan” is an extension of our strategic vision in enhancing food security

The Bustan Farm Project, the largest closed smart facility in the world, affiliated with the “Emirates Group”, obtained the “Reading Mark for the Future”, which is granted by the government and future development office to federal and local institutions and national companies that implement exceptional projects that enhance the readiness of the UAE for the future, in appreciation of the achievements achieved through an innovative model of water and vertical agriculture, supported by technology Advanced and data analysis, in order to enhance the readiness of the food security sector, support sustainability, and contribute to raising the efficiency and flexibility of supply chains in the fields of aviation and logistics, in facing the challenges of climate change and supply chains.

The brand was delivered during a visit to the “Bustan” facility, in the presence of the Minister of State for Governmental and Future Development, Ahhouh Bint Khalfan Al -Roumi, and CEO of Bustan Company, Shahryar Nawabi.

His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Supreme President of the CEO of the Emirates Airlines and the group said: “The (Bustan) project is an extension of our strategic vision in enhancing food security and sustainability of resources, and confirms our commitment to innovation is a pillar to achieve national prosperity. By combining smart technologies with innovative solutions, the project allows the production of fresh and nutritious vegetables on a wide range in an internal environment that is not affected by climatic conditions, while reducing water use to a minimum.

His Highness added: «The project has proven since its inception in 2022 that achieving sustainable food security is possible even in the most difficult circumstances, and that innovation can turn environmental challenges into strategic opportunities, and I would like to guarantee the efforts of (UAE aircraft supply) and (Bustan) to lead this transformation, which enhances the efficiency of the food supply chain, and confirms the UAE’s position as a global model for sustainability and leadership in future agriculture, and proudly By obtaining the project (the mark of readiness for the future) in the food security and sustainability sector.

For her part, Minister of State for Government and Future Development, Ahoud Bint Khalfan Al -Roumi, said that “the project of (Bustan) farm translates the vision of the wise leadership, and its keenness to achieve readiness for the future,” stressing that strengthening the readiness of the food security sector and raising the efficiency and flexibility of supply chains at the heart of the UAE’s interest in food security and facing tomorrow’s variables.

She added that smart technology and huge data represent basic elements in a dietary and agricultural revolution whose axis is facing the challenges of climate change, its effects on food security, and the provision of competitive products throughout the year without seasons thanks to the closed vertical farms models that reduce waste and double production efficiency, pointing out that granting the “Request of the Future” to the “Pastak” project is a tribute to a pre -emptive model A new global in cultivating the future from the UAE, introduces smart supply chains that are speeded by technology, and enhances sustainability and economic efficiency for the future.

The Bustan Farm Project, which was developed and implemented by the Emirates Airlines Group, is a pioneering practical model for sustainable agriculture in a closed environment, which is expected to reach the size of its global market by $ 500 billion by 2030, as it depends on the latest technologies in the field of aquatic and vertical agriculture supported by data analysis, to produce approximately 1100 tons of vegetables and leaves annually, allocated about 50% Of it for more than 54 million passengers on Emirates Airlines flights, while the rest is directed to cover the increasing demand in the local market.


A million plants in “your garden”

The production capacity of the “Bustan” farm is more than a million plants, which are cultivated vertically within a tight environment that is not affected by external climate fluctuations, through the employment of national sustainability technology to reduce energy consumption by 20%, and provide more than 250 million liters of water, which achieves permanent productivity of organic green vegetables free of pesticides and chemicals.

This innovative method guarantees the provision of health and safe products for consumers. The facility supports sustainability with a circular economy model that contributes to the recycling of 526 tons of vegetables to produce more than 33 tons of organic fertilizer, and avoid the emission of 219 thousand kilograms of carbon dioxide, which is equivalent to reducing the consumption of 113 thousand liters of fuel.
