International Maritime Organization: UAE is a pivotal partner in developing the global shipping sector

Dubai, September 30/ WAM/ His Excellency Arsenio Domingiz, Secretary -General of the International Maritime Organization, stressed that the UAE plays a pivotal role in supporting the organization’s efforts and developing the global maritime sector, through its active membership in the organization’s council and assuming the position of Vice -Chairman of the Facilitation Committee.

He said in statements to the Emirates News Agency “WAM” on the sidelines of the first day of the parallel maritime event for the International Maritime Day, which is held over two days in Dubai, that the UAE hosting this event reflects its position as a major partner for the organization and its keenness to enhance its interaction with the maritime charging sector with all its components, and also confirms its commitment to enhance the application and development of international maritime bases and standards.

He pointed out that the organization is working to keep pace with technological developments in the maritime transport industry, including the development of self -driving ships and confronting cyber risks, as well as improving training requirements to keep pace with the rapid transformations in the sector and ensure the highest levels of efficiency and safety.

He pointed out that the organization’s priorities during the current stage are focused on three main axes, which include accelerating carbon removal efforts and protecting the marine environment, and supporting workers on the ships through training and investment in their health and welfare, as well as enhancing totalitarianism and transparency by adopting digitization and modern technologies such as artificial intelligence, in a way that contributes to building a more sustainable and efficient shipping sector.

The Secretary -General of the International Maritime Organization praised the role of the UAE in supporting the goals of the organization, stressing that its active partnership represents a model in joint work towards formulating a more sustainable and innovative future for the global shipping sector.
