3 simple behaviors that delay early detection of breast cancer

The Abu Dhabi Public Health Center announced that more than 34,000 women were conducting breast cancer examination during the past year, an increase of 31% compared to 2023, and more than 80% of breast cancer cases were diagnosed in Abu Dhabi at an early stage, and set 3 behaviors that stand in front of women to take a simple step capable of saving their lives that included fear of the result of the tests, hesitation in decision -making, and postponing the seizure of checks.

In detail, the Abu Dhabi Public Health Center, affiliated with the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi, in cooperation with an extensive network of partners, launched a new campaign to combat breast cancer in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi under the slogan “Take care of the most important”, with the aim of causing a noticeable shift in women’s behavior and motivating them to move from the stage of awareness to enrich tests for early detection of breast cancer.

The “Take Entertainment” campaign aims to address these challenges, by using daily life situations close to everyone to remind women that as we care about inspecting our phones and closing our doors and the beauty of our appearance in the mirror every day, we also have to care about the most important: our health.

The center “during the press conference” held yesterday at its headquarters to announce the campaign, confirmed that breast cancer is the most common type of cancer among women in the UAE. Early examination of recovery contributes to a rate of more than 90% when the disease is discovered early, stressing that the campaign is working to enhance this success, and calls for courage instead of hesitation, and to accelerate the reservation of breast cancer examination instead of delaying, and reassurance instead of risk.

The campaign calls on women who have reached 40 years to perform mammograms every two years, while women are advised between 20 and 39 years to conduct a clinical examination of the breast every three years, with the possibility of a risk assessment of women between 35 and 39 years.

“We realize that the early examination of breast cancer improves the opportunities for treatment and recovery significantly, yet breast cancer still affects many women. This campaign is part of our broader strategy to integrate the daily lifestyle, and make the examination a routine practice available and reliable for everyone.”

While the Executive Director of the Public Health Sector at the Center, Dr. Amna Al -Hajri, explained that the “Take care of the most important” campaign is based on national evidence and statistics, and addresses behavioral and cultural factors that delay the diagnosis, replace fear, confusion, with empowerment, clarity and ease, especially since the examination is a simple and safe procedure and is able to save life, and our role is to ensure that every woman knows when and where and how it reaches it.

The center works with partners from various health, sports, personal and commercial care sectors to facilitate access to examination services and expand their scope. Contributions include organizing free examination days, providing mobile units for examination, in addition to community awareness activities in various parts of the emirate.

The center indicated that holders of “Trust” card can reserve the dates of breast cancer examination directly through the providers of the “Check” program accredited on the site: www.ifhas.gov.ae.

Free examination services and multiple activities will also be available throughout October in various partners facilities at the emirate level.
