The UAE strengthens its international presence in a high-level policy dialogue on resilient recovery

Kobe – Japan, 9 October / WAM / The National Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management Authority participated in the high-level policy dialogue on resilient recovery in the city of Kobe, Japan, which is a prestigious international platform that brings together an elite of decision-makers, experts and international organizations, to discuss the best ways to enhance countries’ capabilities to confront disasters and recover from them in a sustainable manner.
The UAE delegation joined the discussion session entitled “Strengthening the Governance of Recovery Before Disasters,” which focused on the importance of integrating recovery plans into national policies proactively, rather than considering them as subsequent measures after the occurrence of crises. This dialogue was organized by the International Platform for Recovery in cooperation with the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction.
As part of the participation, the Emirati delegation attended a bilateral meeting with Paola Alberto, Director of the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction, where the two sides reviewed the efforts made by the UAE in the field of risk management and recovery, and opportunities to enhance bilateral cooperation were discussed in a way that contributes to building societies that are more prepared and resilient in the face of future challenges.
For his part, His Excellency Dr. Saif Juma Al Dhaheri, Director of the National Operations Center at the National Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management Authority, said that participation in such international dialogues comes from the vision of our wise leadership, which places investment in capacity building and strengthening international cooperation at the top of its priorities.
He pointed out that the Authority works according to a proactive approach based on exchanging experiences and knowledge, and benefiting from the best international practices in the field of emergency management and recovery, with the belief in building strong early recovery systems that not only contribute to reducing the effects of disasters on societies, but also enhance the sustainability of national development and support the stability of economies.
Al Dhaheri added that the Authority attaches great importance to strengthening its international partnerships with the United Nations and global and regional organizations, as it considers them an essential pillar for consolidating the UAE’s position among the leading countries in this field, in light of the commitment to support international initiatives aimed at developing governance systems and enhancing societal resilience, in a way that ensures human protection first, preserves national gains, and continues the path of sustainable development.
For its part, the Authority affirmed the UAE’s commitment to continue supporting international efforts aimed at developing effective systems for early recovery, strengthening governance, and expanding areas of exchange of expertise, which contributes to protecting societies from future risks and creating a more resilient and sustainable future.
